Berlin celebrates this fall photography. Every two years takes the photo Festival »European Month of Photography“ instead. Renowned photographers show their work at selected locations of Berlin.
This year the theme »upheavels and utopias« is the focus of attention. The breaks, the social transformation of the Eastern Bloc, the Great Depression in the 1920s – these are major themes of this year’s festival.
The central exhibition in the Martin-Gropius-Bau, »MemoryLab: The Sentimental Turn« (17 October -15 December 2014) consists thematically deals with »cultural characteristics and changes in social conditions«.
»The exhibition presents a first-class selection of artists from Germany and abroad, including big stars and much-discussed positions such as Vera Frenkel, Nan Goldin, Erwin Olaf, Trevor Paglen, Antoine d’Agata, and Broomberg & Chanarin. I am especially pleased that Vera Frenkel, Nan Goldin, Erwin Olaf, Marko Lipuš, Adam Broomberg, and Oliver Chanarin will be present at the opening and will have the opportunity to talk with their German colleagues.« Frank Wagner, Curator MdF Berlin
